A: Applicants must possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, as well as a Substitute Teaching License that has been issued by the Suburban Cook County-Regional Office of Education.
Q: What is the rate of pay for Substitute Teachers?
A: A rate of $100.00 per day will be paid for substitutes for a full day of substitute teaching. A rate of $50 per day will be paid for one-half day or to replace a teacher with a half-time assignment.
If a substitute teacher is employed for a period of more than thirty (30) consecutive days in the same assignment and upon recommendation of the building principal and approval of the Superintendent, the substitute shall be paid at a rate of $130.00 per day.
Q. How am I added to Hazel Crest’s substitute teacher list?
A: If you would like to substitute teach in District 152½, you must first obtain authorization through the South Cook Intermediate Service Center. South Cook ISC is located at 253 West Joe Orr Road, Chicago Heights, IL 60411.
You will need to contact the ISC to schedule an appointment to be fingerprinted for a background check and to tum in the following documents:
1. A current TB and Physical exam that has been given within the last 90 days
2. $50 money order or cashier's check
3. University/ College Transcripts
Once you have obtained your letter of authorization from the ISC, you must complete an online application for substitute teaching. After completing the application, contact the Substitute Caller at (708) 225-4043 to arrange to pick up additional paperwork. You must also bring your Driver's
License and Social Security Card with you to your appointment (you need both to complete the additional paperwork).
Q: Am I guaranteed an assignment every day?
A: No, daily assignments are not guaranteed. You may be called for an assignment once a day, once a week, or even once a month. It depends on the needs of the District at that time.
