Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA)

The Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) is an Illinois law (105 ILCS 85) designed to ensure that student data is protected when collected by educational technology companies, the school district, or the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

Our Commitment

  • We enter into written agreements with all vendors who collect or access student data.
  • We maintain strong security measures to protect student information from unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • We post all data-sharing agreements in accordance with SOPPA requirements.
  • We ensure that student data is only shared for legitimate educational purposes.

Parent and Guardian Rights

  • Inspect and review their child’s covered information maintained by the district or an operator.
  • Request a copy of this information in paper or electronic format.
  • Request correction of factual inaccuracies in student information.

How We Use Student Data

The district shares student information only for legitimate educational purposes, such as classroom instruction, administrative support, or communication between students, teachers, and parents. Vendors are prohibited from selling or renting student data or using it for marketing or non-school purposes.
