Principals Message

Carole G. Davis, Principal

Dear Barack Obama Learning Academy Families,

As you are aware, Governor Pritzker has extended school closure for all public and private PreK-12 schools through April 30, 2020.  As a district and at each school, we have designed a Remote Learning experience for all students, kindergarten through eighth grade which can be accessed from our district website. To leave a message regarding E-Learning or any concern, first, contact your child’s teacher.  You may also call and leave a voicemail message at Barack Obama Learning Academy @ 708-825-2400.  One of our secretaries, either Ms. Evans or Ms. Winston will return the call. Please feel free to reach out directly to me via email at [email protected] and do not hesitate to reach out to your Pod Administrators as well: Assistant Principal, Kenyatta Greer: grades 3-5 and Assistant Principal, Erin Thorne: grades 6-8.   It is our goal to stay in frequent contact to stay aware of your family’s health and to ensure your child is supported academically and social-emotionally, throughout the school closure.

Please note the following during the school closure:

  • "Grab and Go" breakfast and lunch meals will be available from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Door 9 of our school on Monday thru Friday.
  • Effective Monday, March 30th, students’ chrome books used in school are available for Remote Learning.  WiFi must be available in the household for Remote Learning.  Please contact your child’s teacher or Pod Administrator to set an appointment for chromebook pick up.
  • During E-Learning days: Staff and students/families will be able to continue to communicate. Teachers are available online during E-Learning days to assist our students. You may reach them electronically through one or more of these digital methods: email, Class Dojo, Google Classroom, Remind App., texting or phone calls.
  • We strongly recommend students complete their work during school hours when staff are most available. This will also help provide a routine structure consistent with our school day. We also encourage parents to identify a quiet area in your home to help children focus and where they can regularly complete their work.
  • Spring Break begins on Good Friday; April 10th, 2020 and will continue through April 19, 2020.  Remote Learning will resume Monday, April 20, 2020.

Please stay in touch with us!  We are here to serve our wonderful students and families!  If you have any concerns, contact your students’ teachers, reach out to your Assistant Principals, and certainly to me.  I welcome any parent calls.  Please contact me via email, it is the quickest way to reach me: [email protected].

We look forward to coming back to school as soon as it is possible. Thank you for your continued support.

From the depth of our hearts in the BOLA family, we miss you, we care about you, and you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Students, keep up the great work!  I am so proud of each of you! Stay healthy!

In Service,

Principal Carole Davis
